Trainer Steve O'Dea is unlikely to risk a gear change on Queensland filly Kiss Me Katy in Saturday's Group Three Silver Shadow Stakes at Randwick.

Kiss Me Katy has worn blinkers her entire career but O'Dea is considering removing the head gear when she steps up in distance during her spring campaign in Sydney.

The three-year-old produced a sound performance to finish third in her Sydney debut behind Shellscrape in the Group Three San Domenico Stakes (1000m) at Randwick on August 8.

O'Dea was pleased with the effort from the daughter of Mull Of Kintyre in the San Domenico and has given plenty of thought to removing the blinkers and replacing them with winkers for the 1200m Silver Shadow Stakes.

"I'm undecided at the moment but I'll probably leave the blinkers on her for the Silver Shadow," O'Dea said.

"But once she steps up in distance I'm thinking about taking them off and using winkers.

"She's worn blinkers in every start and it may be a bit risky to take them off just yet.

"She's galloped without blinkers in trackwork and she just switched off."

O'Dea's Brisbane stable rider Ryan Wiggins rode Kiss Me Katy in the San Domenico and has retained the mount for the Silver Shadow Stakes.

Kiss Me Katy earned her chance to campaign in Sydney during the spring after winning four of her five previous starts in Queensland.

However, O'Dea has ruled out heading to Melbourne with Kiss Me Katy and will take her home immediately after her Princess Series campaign in Sydney.

"She won't be going to Melbourne after she's finished in Sydney," he said.

"If all goes well in the Silver Shadow she'll run next in the Furious Stakes, then the Tea Rose and hopefully the Flight Stakes."

The Group One Flight Stakes (1600m) is the final leg of the Princess Series at Randwick on October 3.

Meanwhile stablemate Go Cart will line-up in Saturday's Group Two Warwick Stakes (1400m) at Randwick.

Go Cart helped put O'Dea on the map when he came from Townsville to train in Brisbane last Christmas.

The seven-year-old won three Listed races in Brisbane which earned him a trip Sydney.

The Danehill Dancer gelding came from second last on the home turn in his first Sydney run to finish a creditable eighth to Murray's Sun over 1200 metres at Randwick on San Domenico Stakes day.

"I was really happy with his run at Randwick as it was his first start in over two months," O'Dea said.
