Manhattan Rain will wear blinkers in Saturday's Danehill Stakes following an indifferent effort in a jumpout down the straight at Flemington on Tuesday.

Trainer Gai Waterhouse admitted she was expecting the half-brother to champion stallion Redoute's Choice to show more dash after he finished third of four runners over 800m behind Grand Harmony and Rostova.

But she also said the hitout was educational for Manhattan Rain who will be having his first start in Melbourne in the Group Two 1200m feature.

"Nash (Rawiller) didn't knock him around, I just said `get him into his stride'. You don't want to knock him around, he only came down on Saturday," Waterhouse told TVN.

"Back in Sydney he would probably work more brilliantly. I just put it down to learning.

"You'd expect a bit more dash, but he's probably just finding his feet. Anyway we'll work him again on Thursday and let him get a lay of the land and it'll be up to him on Saturday."

Manhattan Rain will wear blinkers in the workout.

Waterhouse is expecting the Encosta De Lago colt to do well in Melbourne this spring.

"He's certainly a lovely colt to do anything with and I'm confident he'll do very well here over the spring," she said.

"I don't know if it will take him a race or two to do that on what I saw this morning, but I'm expecting him to perform very well whenever he runs.

"He's nominated for races like the Cox Plate and the (Victoria) Derby but I don't want to overtax him this spring so that he's at his best in the autumn."

The AJC Sires' Produce Stakes winner has twice previously raced in blinkers, when third in the Golden Slipper Stakes and when second at Rosehill on debut in January.

Blake Shinn will ride Manhattan Rain in the Danehill in which he will meet a crack field of three-year-olds including the unbeaten Peter Moody-trained filly Black Caviar who has been impressive in each of her three wins but faces her sternest test to date on Saturday.

Trainer Mark Kavanagh confirmed that Tuesday's impressive jumpout winner Grand Harmony would be a Danehill starter.

The Exceed And Excel colt has raced just twice, winning a Seymour 1000m three-year-old maiden when resuming on August 23.

Among the 16 nominations for the set weights plus penalties event are the in-form Starspangledbanner who racked up a hat-trick in the McNeil Stakes at Caulfield last Saturday, Up And Coming Stakes winner Rarefied and Quezette Stakes winner Corsaire.

Former Sydney colt Wanted will make his Melbourne debut when he resumes in the Danehill for the Moody stable while the Gary Portelli-trained Delago Bolt, last in Tuesday's jumpout to Grand Harmony, will also be a starter.
