Royal Ascot-bound trainer Paul Messara will roll the dice and remove blinkers from Mic Mac for his Group One assignment in Saturday's Doomben 10,000.

Mic Mac wore the head gear in his first start for Messara when a close fourth to Albert The Fat in the Group One BTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben on May 15.

Originally trained in Victoria by Greg Eurell, Mic Mac is an $11 chance with TAB Sportsbet with Ortensia the $4 favourite for the 1350m weight-for-age feature.

Messara conceded he was still getting to know his new stable acquisition who worked strongly without blinkers at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday.

"I'm going to take the blinkers off for the 10,000," Messara said.

"He worked well without them on Saturday and he never wore them in his seven race wins.

"Greg (Eurell) only put them on him for his last few runs so I left them on when he had his first start for me last time.

"It's a Group One race but I don 't think it's a gamble by taking them off. "

Messara has found it difficult to get a guide on Mic Mac who came into his stable following his fifth to Hot Danish in the Group One All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick last month.

"I only had Mic Mac for three weeks before the BTC Cup and it's been hard to get a good feel of him," Messara said.

"I liked his run in the BTC Cup and he's improved since then.

"He raced handy all the way and his run only petered out in the last 50 metres."

Messara has retained Shane Scriven as Mic Mac's rider for the Doomben 10,000.

"Shane liked his run in the BTC Cup and thinks he'll improve a lot. He reckons Mic Mac was like a kid in a lolly shop and wasn't concentrating."

Messara had been training for only four years before Alverta gave him his first Group One success in the Coolmore Classic at Rosehill in March which led to Mic Mac being transferred to his stables.

Mic Mac is owned by Messara's 88-year-old grandfather Maurice Messara who promised to transfer his horses to the Scone-based trainer once he claimed a Group One winner.

Messara will leave for London immediately following the Doomben meeting to prepare Alverta for the Group One Golden Jubilee at Royal Ascot next month.

With 35 horses paid up as first acceptors for the Doomben 10,000, Mic Mac is assured of a start as the ninth qualifier in the field which is limited to 16 runners.

Whobegotyou, who is equal second favourite with Hot Danish at $5.50 for the Doomben 10,000, will leave trainer Mark Kavanagh's Flemington base on Monday along with stablemate Catapulted.

Whobegotyou hasn't raced since finishing sixth to So You Think in the Cox Plate at Moonee Valley in October but indicated he was primed for a strong first-up performance by winning an unofficial trial at Flemington on Friday,
