Royal Ascot hero Scenic Blast achieved a rating of 122 when he beat Fleeting Spirit to win the Group One King's Stand Stakes (1000m) in June.

That victory matched his 122 rating when he won the Newmarket Hcp (1200m) at Flemington in March, while Weekend Hussler also rated 122 when he won the Group One Underwood Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield in September after winning the Memsie Stakes (1400m) and Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at his previous two outings.

Veteran campaigners Apache Cat, Pompeii Ruler and Takeover Target produced the next highest-rated performances of the season on 119.

Maldivian, who led throughout to win the Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley, was next on 118, a rating he also achieved at his following start when winning the CF Orr Stakes (1400m) first-up at Caulfield.

The best performance by a New Zealand-trained horse during the season was produced by four-year-old Nom Du Jeu (115) when finishing second to Godolphin galloper All The Good in the Caulfield Cup (2400m).

The top-rated mare in New Zealand was Princess Coup at 112 when recording her second successive victory in the Kelt Capital Stakes (2040m) in October.

The three-year-old listings were headed by Whobegotyou who achieved a rating of 117 when winning the Caulfield Guineas (1600m) last spring.

Australian Guineas (1600m) winner Heart Of Dreams was rated next on 116 along with Metal Bender, a dual Group One winner of the Randwick Guineas (1600m) and Rosehill Guineas (2000m), and South Australian colt Rebel Raider who won the AAMI Victoria Derby (2500m) before returning home to win the SA Derby in May.

The top three-year-old filly of the season was Samantha Miss on 113, a mark she achieved in winning the Group One Flight Stakes (1600m) and the Group One VRC Oaks (2500m).

Undefeated filly Typhoon Tracy was rated on 112 for her win against the older mares in the Group One Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill in March.

In assessing the leading two-year-olds, the committee concluded the 2009 AAMI Golden Slipper (1200m) produced the best performance of the season with the winner Phelan Ready rating 115 for his dominant victory over a high-quality field.

Group One winners Manhattan Rain and Onemorenomore were next, both rated on 114, ahead of Blue Diamond Stakes winner Reward For Effort and recently retired stallion prospect Real Saga on 112.

The leading two-year-old filly was Headway, achieving a rating of 107 when runner-up to Phelan Ready in the Golden Slipper.

Exciting fillies Black Caviar and More Joyous shared second position on 106.

The best performance by a New Zealand trained two-year-old during the season was produced by The Heckler, achieving a rating of 106 when winning the Group One Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) in March.

The listings are compiled by the senior handicappers representing the principal racing authorities of Australia and New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing.

The performances of horses rated 115 and above are then confirmed by the World Thoroughbred Rankings Committee representing senior handicappers from major racing nations around the world.
