Champion sprinter Black Caviar has started pre-training in preparation for the spring.

Trainer Peter Moody said while no specific targets had been set for the rising five-year-old he expected she would be resume in mid to late October.

"We haven't thought about it, (where she will resume)," Moody said.

"She kicked off pre-training today and is in good shape.

"She usually comes in to work around the 600 kilogram mark and she's about 610 or 615 which is normal.

"She will have a month in pre-training then we will bring her back to Caulfield and see where we are at with her."

A hot favourite for this year's Australian Racehorse of the Year title, Black Caviar is unbeaten in 13 starts from 1000 to 1200 metres and has banked almost $3.5 million for her connections.

The top rated sprinter in the world, her winning margins total more than 40 lengths.

She travelled interstate this year to win the TJ Smith Stakes in Sydney in April and the BTC Cup in Brisbane the following month.

She was set to attempt her 14th victory in a row as a long odds-on favourite in last month's Doomben 10,000 but Moody declared she'd had enough and after consultation with the owners spelled her for 5-1/2 weeks.

The BTC Cup was Black Caviar's sixth consecutive Group One which started with the Patinack Farm Classic (1200m) last spring and continued with this year's Lightning Stakes, Newmarket Handicap, William Reid Stakes, and TJ Smith.

The Patinack Farm Classic is again a target for Black Caviar but Moody has expressed his displeasure over the conditions of the race which guarantee Singapore star Rocket Man a $600,000 bonus if he wins.

That bonus is not available to the other runners.

Last spring Black Caviar's first two spring runs were in October in the Group Two sprints, the Schillaci Stakes (1000m) on Caulfield Guineas Day and the Schweppes Stakes (1200m) on Cox Plate Day.

Either of those races could again be her launching pad with a medium term possibility of an overseas tilt at December's Group One Hong Kong Sprint (1200m).
