Enigmatic sprinter Biscayne Bay will get the chance to break his run of outs in Sydney feature races when he tackles the Group Three Missile Stakes at Rosehill.

The 1100 metre sprint headlines a strong program of racing on Saturday, the first day of the new season, which also boasts The Rosebud (1200m) for three-year-olds and the Winter Championship (1500m).

Biscayne Bay has tasted Group race success in Melbourne winning the International Sprint at Caulfield in 2006 but he is yet to post a black-type win in Sydney.

He did come close when third to Spark of Life in the Group Two Challenge Stakes at Randwick two years ago and again in last year's Canterbury Classic when he filled the same placing behind Global Warming and Paratroopers.

Keyren Forbes, foreman for Biscayne Bay's trainer Paul Perry, conceded the rising seven-year-old's best form had been in Melbourne but stopped short of confirming a southern raid this spring.

"He most certainly performs better down there," Forbes said.

"But we'll see how he goes at his next couple of starts before deciding whether he races there again this preparation."

The Perry stable will be hoping the clear skies and sunshine continue in Sydney this week as Biscayne Bay has failed to manage a place in all five runs on slow and heavy tracks.

He will go into the Missile second-up after finishing a well beaten ninth to Teasing on a wet track earlier this month.

"That was his first run in a while and he's not at home on wet tracks," Forbes said.

"We've been trying to find a race for him since then but there hasn't been much around.

"Being an older horse he might take a couple of runs to hit his straps."

Biscayne Bay had just one run in the autumn but second-up last spring he finished third to the ill-fated Sunburnt Land in the International Sprint at Caulfield.

He is one of 12 entries for the Missile along with the Tim Martin-trained Group One winner Typhoon Zed who finished runner-up to Captain Bax in the same race 12 months ago.

Martin has also nominated Teasing while Gai Waterhouse is set to be represented by promising colt Dreamscape.

Challenge Stakes winner Olonana, in-form sprinter Kroner and Rarefied - who will be striving to become the first three-year-old to win the Missile since Commands 10 years ago - are also among the nominations.

The Rosebud, a lead up race to the $1 million Golden Rose later this month, has attracted 20 nominations including $2.2 million colt Metallurgical, the highly-rated Hus Der Lieften and Sweet Embrace Stakes runner-up Lovemelikearock.
