Apprentice Tommy Berry will have at least one ride to familiarise himself with the Gold Coast circuit before his moment of truth arrives on Karuta Queen.

Berry has never ridden at the Gold Coast before and will partner favourite Karuta Queen in Saturday's $2 million Magic Millions Classic (1200m).

But before he is legged aboard the flying Queanbeyan filly, Berry has the job of chasing more riches on the Clarry Conners-trained The Last General in the $1 million Magic Millions Guineas (1400m).

Berry has ridden The Last General in his past four starts including a third to fellow Guineas hopefuls Gai's Choice and American Crew over 1400 metres at Randwick on New Year's Day.

Karuta Queen arrived at the Gold Coast on Wednesday night following a three-day stay at Coffs Harbour.

The unbeaten filly will be given her final serious piece of work at the Gold Coast on Tuesday morning ahead of the barrier draw for the feature race.

Trainer Neville Layt can't wait for the race to come around.

"Everything is looking good, all we need is a barrier now," Layt said.

"I think young Tommy has picked up a ride or two so he'll have an idea how the ride the track as well."

Berry will arrive at the Gold Coast early on race morning and says the excitement has already begun.

"It's an unbelievable feeling, especially being on the favourite," Berry said.

"A couple of reporters rang me the other day and it kind of hit me that it's coming and I can't wait.

"Whatever happens she is going to be trying her heart out and if she's good enough she'll win."

The apprentice will seek advice from senior riders on the Gold Coast track and plans to do his own homework once he arrives.

"I get up there on Saturday morning, but early on Saturday morning, and I'll be there a couple of hours before the races so I'll have a good walk around the track, maybe with another senior rider," Berry said.

"She (Karuta Queen) is a little greyhound so the track shouldn't worry her."

The winner of three races, Karuta Queen was given a hitout in a 900m barrier trial on her home track on Boxing Day which she won by 21 lengths in 49.93 seconds, a Queanbeyan record.
