Bellevent has been doing everything on and off the track recently to suggest to trainer Joe Pride she is ready to score at Canterbury on Wednesday.

The five-year-old runs in the opening race of the day, the Night Of Champions 13/8 Handicap (1550m).

Bellevent, a Special Bond mare, comes into the race after running second to stablemate Michelin Star at Warwick Farm over 1400 metres on June 17.

Two starts back she was third to Toulon Bay at Canterbury over 1550 metres.

"She's working her way up to a win and this looks a nice race for her, she's placed to win and I'd be disappointed if she doesn't," Pride said.

"Horses to graduate to Saturday company need to win with dominance in mid-week and this is her chance to prove that she's worthy of a step up.

"She's been working very well and I'm surprised that she hasn't won one yet."

Pride said Bellevent had a mild setback with a virus recently but her last two starts showed the Group One-winning trainer the mare was hitting her straps.

"It took her a short while to get over it but she's starting to really put it together now," Pride said.

Bellevent is the $3 favourite in pre-post betting ahead of the Gai Waterhouse-trained Deedra at $4 while Blameless from the Graeme Rogerson stable is rated a $4.60 chance.

Former Victorian-trained two-year-old Bomber Murphy is having his second start for Pride in the Retirement Expo Maiden (1100m)

Bomber Murphy ran second to Cortina Gal first-up at Kembla Grange over 1000 metres on June 13.

The on-pace runner has drawn well in barrier one and Pride is looking forward to the race.

"I was very pleased with his run, it was a top effort and he's drawn to get a very nice run in this," Pride said.

Bomber Murphy had two unplaced runs for trainer Robbie Laing in Victoria before being transferred to Pride at Warwick Farm earlier this year.

Pride believes Marcus Brutus, who runs in the Racing's Night Of Champions Maiden (1550m), has more talent than his two unplaced starts suggest.

"He actually goes all right but he's just hit two absolute bog tracks," Pride said.

"It's going to be heavy again but you can't keep them in their boxes and we're looking to run him over more ground in the future too."
