Bel Sprinter will have his final right handed gallop at Mornington on Tuesday morning ahead of a possible clash with Hay List, Elite Falls and Rain Affair in Saturday's Group Two Challenge Stakes at Rosehill.

Trainer Jason Warren is happy with with the four-year-old who was scratched from the Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on the morning of the race due to a superficial wound to his offside hock.

The gelding had lashed out and kicked a fence in a paddock the previous Sunday.

"He's still got a small wound on his hind leg but it's got a scab on it now and it's nice and settled and not a concern at this stage," Warren said.

"He's in good order. He'll have his final gallop tomorrow morning at Mornington the reverse way and then head up to Sydney.

"He's done a lot of his work the reverse way and has handled it super.

"This trip away will do him the world of good. It will just bring him back on again after having a bit of time off."

By Bel Esprit, the same sire as Black Caviar, Bel Sprinter hasn't raced since his unlucky 1-1/2 lengths sixth to Woorim in the Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on February 25 when he was slowly away and held up for most of the home straight.

That was only his second defeat in seven starts, his best wins being two Listed victories at Caulfield in the Regal Roller Stakes (1200m) last August and the Adams Stakes (1000m) first-up on February 4.

Warren is after a first Group One win for himself and Bel Sprinter and has the

Galaxy (1100m) at Randwick on April 21 in his sights.

Ben Melham, who has ridden Bel Sprinter in all seven starts, returns from suspension this week in time to partner him on Saturday.

There were 12 nominations for the weight-for-age Challenge (1100m) including Newmarket winner Hay List, Oakleigh Plate runner-up Elite Falls, and Rain Affair who won nine straight races in Sydney before finishing sixth behind Hay List in the Newmarket.

If Hay List starts, he would be backing up after his defeat by Foxwedge in the Group One William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley last Friday night.

He is heading towards a start in the Group One $1 million TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on April 14, a race he finished second to Black Caviar in last year.
