Profound Beauty has forfeited Melbourne Cup favouritism following her distant fourth in the Irish St Leger.

The Dermot Weld-trained mare finished 23-1/2 lengths from the winner Alandi in Saturday's classic at The Curragh on a soggy track.

Rising star Vigor and 2008 Melbourne Cup third placegetter C'est La Guerre are now the $9 equal favourites ahead of Speed Gifted ($13) and Master O'Reilly and 2006 winner Efficient both at $15.

Profound Beauty, who was the $11 favourite with TAB Sportsbet, is now at $17 alongside 2009 Cup winner Viewed and his AJC Australian Derby winning stablemate Roman Emperor.

During the week, Weld had been in two minds about running Profound Beauty after heavy rain but made the decision to start.

She is now due to go into quarantine in preparation for the trip to Australia.

The mare was ridden by Glen Boss when she carried 51.5kg to fifth in last year's Melbourne Cup.

However, with 53.5kg this year, regular partner Pat Smullen will make the trip.

The Danny O'Brien-trained Vigor is the outright favourite at $9 for the Caulfield Cup ahead of Speed Gifted at $9 and Whobegotyou at $11.

The winner of Saturday's Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes, Whobegotyou is now into $3.50 for the Cox Plate at Moonee Valley where he is most comfortable.

Wearing blinkers on Saturday, Whobegotyou stepped up another gear in the final stages of the race to overhaul Mic Mac at Singapore mare Jolie's Shinju.

"The blinkers switched him on a lot more and not only that, coming back to Moonee Valley," jockey Damien Oliver said.

"He really appreciates the track here and he was back to his best."

El Segundo, winner of the Cox Plate two years ago, is on the second line of betting at $9 to repeat the feat as an eight-year-old after his fifth in the Dato Tan.
