The barrier draw will determine race tactics for exciting colt Trusting who will face a Group One rematch with Golden Rose conqueror Denman in Saturday's Caulfield Guineas.
In what is expected to be one of the races of the spring in Melbourne, the star duo will clash with the likes AJC Sire's Produce Stakes winner Manhattan Rain and Bart Cummings' rising star So You Think.
Trusting had his first look at the Caulfield circuit in the Guineas Prelude (1400m) in which he settled last from his outside gate and stormed home to finish a short half head second to Demerit.
But Mark Webbey, racing manager for Patinack Farm, said Trusting was not one-dimensional and could be ridden closer to the speed in the Guineas depending on the barrier draw.
"He got back the other day due to the draw but we will wait and see where he draws for Saturday before we decide tactics," Webbey said.
"If he draws well we might have a look at riding him a bit closer.
"I've got no fears about him adapting if we have him about midfield.
"We're teaching him all the time to be a racehorse and we had him in between runners the other day.
"He is still doing a few things wrong but he has untapped ability as we've all seen."
Still in his first racing preparation, Trusting defeated older horses in the weight-for-age Warwick Stakes at just his third start before finishing second to Denman in the Golden Rose two runs back.
The pair are the top two picks in early markets for the Caulfield Guineas (1600m) with Denman the $3.20 TAB Sportsbet favourite ahead of Trusting at $4.40.
Manhattan Rain and So You Think are the only other runners under double figure odds at $7 and Webbey believes punters have got it about right.
"Obviously Denman will be the hardest to beat," he said.
"Denman is the benchmark but I'd put our horse up there as being every bit as good as him and hopefully better on the day on Saturday.
"It's going to be an exciting race. They are a very good group of three-year-olds."
Craig Williams, who has been charged with careless riding on Maldivian in last Saturday's Group One Turnbull Stakes and will appear at adjourned inquiry on Tuesday, will ride Trusting in the Guineas.
His other Guineas day rides are Rock Kingdom in the Group One Toorak Handicap while he has also committed to Capecover (Herbert Power Handicap), Velocitea (Northwood Plume Stakes), La Bella Encosta (Harrolds Fashion Plate) and Hilton Head (Thoroughbred Club Stakes).
Patinack Farm is also set to be strongly represented in the Group Three Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m) by Marquardt, who will be partnered by Hugh Bowman, and So Anyway with Blake Shinn to ride.
