Stakeswinner Centennial Park will be sent straight to Melbourne if he doesn't draw a decent barrier for Rosehill on Saturday.

Trainer David Payne has the last-start winner nominated for a 1400-metre open handicap.

There are 20 nominations for the race which has a limit of 16 with four emergencies.

"We'll see how he draws, otherwise he's off to Melbourne," Payne said.

"He likes to be fairly close to the speed, so we don't want to be too wide."

The Rosehill trainer is eyeing off the Group Three Yallambee Stud Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on October 31.

Centennial Park, whose spring campaign was disrupted by a minor virus, returned from a freshen-up in great style when he flew home to beat Emperator by a neck over Saturday's distance at Rosehill on October 10.

"He's done very well since the run, he's as honest as the day is long," Payne said.

"It was a terrific effort last time out to come back from the setback, albeit a minor one.

"I can't fault this horse, he just gives it everything he has every time he goes around."

Centennial Park has already raced in Melbourne having run ninth in the Group One Australian Guineas (1600m) in March.

Payne didn't want to run the gelding in the Guineas and said it was the owners' decision.

The South African-born trainer insisted the horse was a sprinter and he was proved correct three weeks later at Rosehill when Centennial Park scored a thrilling short head win in the Listed Darby Munro Stakes (1200m).

The win gave Payne bragging rights over prominent owner and good friend John Cordina.

Classy stablemate Emperor Bonaparte is also among the nominations for Saturday's race.

Four-year-old Emperor Bonaparte beat only two runners home in the Epsom Handicap (1600m) on a very heavy Randwick track on October 3.

"He's going to have one more run and then we'll put him out," Payne said.

"He couldn't go on that heavy track in the Epsom but he's come through the run well.

"He's a nice horse and hopefully he can go out this campaign a winner."

Emperor Bonaparte scored a narrow win in the Listed Premier's Cup (1800m) at Rosehill three starts back before his seventh to Ready To Lift in the Group Three Kingston Town Stakes (2000m).

The Tracey Bartley-trained Reigning To Win has the topweight of 59kg in Saturday's event ahead of Spinney (57kg) while Centennial Park has 56.5kg.

Emperor Bonaparte has a half-kilogram less than his stablemate.

Numbers are strong for Saturday's eight-race card for which there are 152 nominations.
