New Zealand filly Awesome Planet lived up to trainer Graeme Rogerson's high opinion of her and booked early favouritism for the Group One Queensland Oaks with a brilliant victory in the Group Three Doomben Roses on Saturday.

Awesome Planet, who only arrived from New Zealand last Thursday, downed fellow Kiwi filly Ekstreme by a half-head in the 2020-metre feature with Purple a length away third.

Rogerson believed Awesome Planet would have been New Zealand's Filly of the Year had it not been for an accident on the way to the track before the New Zealand Oaks in March.

"With a bit of luck she should be the New Zealand Filly of the Year," Rogerson said.

"Unfortunately she was a late scratching in the New Zealand Oaks after she was involved in a road accident in her float on the way to the races.

"She's a very good filly and she's proved it by beating older horses back home.

"She'll be hard to beat in the Queensland Oaks on that run."

Awesome Planet was ridden by Jim Cassidy whose victory on the filly brought back memories of his three successive Doomben Cup victories on Rough Habit.

The last filly to complete the Doomben Roses-Queensland Oaks double was Ethereal in 2001, the same year she went on to claim the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups double.

Jockey Michael Rodd was disappointed with $3.90 favourite La Etoile who finished fourth.

"She didn't run the trip right out and she won't be going to the Queensland Oaks now and will head to the Queensland Guineas," Rodd said.

Earlier, jockey Craig Williams declared Melbourne filly Ortensia a future star following her explosive win in the Listed Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m).

Ortensia lived up to the big wraps placed on her by trainer Tony Noonan with a three-length win over Belong To Many.

"Tony knows her inside out and said he thought she was a better chaser," Williams said.

"She let down really well and is definitely a better chaser.

"She's an awesome filly and there's not many horses that can run down Belong To Many.

"Hopefully she can go on and become the queen of the turf in the spring."

Williams is almost certain to stick with Ortensia in the Group One Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 6 in which she has a featherweight 49.5 kilograms.
