Former Golden Slipper favourite Raceway has eased further following his defeat by Ashokan at Randwick on Saturday.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained two-year-old was displaced by Samaready after her Blue Diamond Stakes win and is now on the fourth line of betting.

While Raceway drifted to $11, Ashokan firmed from $101 to $26 after the qualifying win with trainer John O'Shea looking forward to possibly having three Slipper runners.

Black Opal runner-up Faustus will run in next week's Todman Stakes along with stablemate Shalford, a Skyline scratching due to the wet track at Randwick.

"Ashokan is a lovely free-running horse," O'Shea said.

"The hood (blinkers) have helped.

"He is very exciting and has a stout pedigree with a bit of Zabeel on his dam's side.

"Weather permitting Shalford and Faustus will run next week.

"Once it was on the worse side of slow today we decided he would stay home."

Jim Cassidy was more than happy with the colt's win.

"He is tough," he said.

"He had a look around in the straight but then when I asked him, he dug deep."

For the Raceway camp there were positives to be drawn despite the defeat of the $1.70 favourite.

After missing the start slightly, Raceway picked up in the straight to get within three-quarters of a length of Ashokan ($9.50), relegating Collect ($4.40) to third after that horse looked to be running a comfortable second.

"It was an excellent run," Waterhouse said.

"He got further back than expected.

"When he came around the turn he got an unexpected bump and that thwarted his chances.

"I'm sure with another furlong and a half (300m) he would have won it."

Raceway's jockey Hugh Bowman was far from discouraged.

"He probably jumped half a length behind them and got 2-1/2 lengths further back than I would have liked," he said.

"I was happy enough with him.

"He got a bump on the turn and I think it's fair to say it's cost him the race but he's got to learn to overcome things like that if he's going to win the best races.

"I'm not throwing my toys out of the cot."

The Mick Price-trained Samaready is at $4.80 for the $3.5 million Golden Slipper (1200m) on April 7 and will run in next Saturday's Reisling Stakes at Rosehill.
