Royal Ascot Group One winners Paco Boy and Art Connoisseur are set to tangle with Australians Scenic Blast and Takeover Target in next month's July Cup.

Both European stables have indicated their representatives will tackle the 1200m race in a bid to break Scenic Blast's stranglehold on the Global Sprint Challenge.

Scenic Blast has won two legs, the Lightning Stakes at Flemington and the King's Stand at Royal Ascot, and is a warm favourite to make it three at Newmarket on July 10.

British bookmakers had the Danny Morton-trained four-year-old as short as 7-4 on Sunday, while 5-2 was still available in some shops.

Early Golden Jubilee favourite, South African JJ The Jet Plane, was being quoted at 13-1 for Newmarket and Joe Janiak's nine-year-old warhorse, Takeover Target, was as long as 15-1.

Takeover Target was withdrawn from the Golden Jubilee with an elevated temperature but trainer Joe Janiak said he hoped the gelding would contest the July Cup.

Surprise Golden Jubilee winner Art Connoisseur was on the third line of betting at 6-1 after connections indicated he would chase the sprint double.

Trainer Michael Bell said track conditions would determine whether or not his three-year-old lined up.

"All being well it's the July Cup," Bell said in Britain's RacingPost.

"But fast ground is the key. We will monitor the ground, that is a prerequisite for him, but that would be very much the plan."

At the same time, Richard Hannon was keen to drop Paco Boy back from the mile of the Queen Anne Stakes.

Paco Boy upstaged favourite Gladiatorus to win the Queen Anne and take his career record to nine wins from 14 starts.

The four-year-old has won over 1200m twice but not since his third career start in November 2007.

That didn't stop punters sending him to the second line of betting, at 4-1 on most boards, after Hannon pointed at Newmarket.

"Nothing's been settled for sure, but the July Cup is very much in the mix," Hannon said on Sunday.

"We'll take it from there over the next couple of weeks."
