Jockey Luke Nolen has compared impressive Flemington two-year-old debutant Golden Archer to 2009 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Reward For Effort who was also trained by Peter Moody.

Golden Archer thrilled Nolen with the ease of his 2-1/4 length win in Saturday's Western Health Sponsors Plate (1100m), rating him the best of the stable's juveniles so far this season.

"He is a really nice two-year-old and of our two-year-olds that have come through so far he is probably the pick of them," Nolen said.

"It is still a long way to go but he is very nice horse and he reminds a lot of Reward For Effort.

"We are still working him out a bit but he did a very good job as he has had to lead up the middle.

"He was always travelling pretty strongly and when I gave him a squeeze he knew it was game on.

"I liked the way he attacked the line and I was a little bit soft on him late."

Moody's racing manager Jeff O'Connor said hopes were high for the Rock Of Gibraltar colt and he would be assessed for the big two-year-old races in the autumn.

"He has probably been the benchmark for us and he brought that here today," O'Connor said.

He said he was remarkably tractable given that he didn't have a rail to guide him.

"He seemed to be in straight line all the way up the straight," O'Connor said.

Late in betting Golden Archer was backed from $6 to start $5 favourite and his backers never had any concerns.

When Nolen went for him he sprinted clear of the pack and coasted home ahead of Hot Spin ($20) and Predator ($19).

Moody's other runner Lady Malvern ($26) finished ninth.

"She got a bit lost down the straight and will take a lot away from the experience," O'Connor said.

An $80,000 yearling, Golden Archer is the second foal from Pins mare Viennetta, a winner of the Group Two New Zealand Breeders Stakes.

Her first foal is an unraced Anabaa three-year-old filly, La Praline, who was also bought by Moody and has impressed the stable.
