Trainer Greg Eurell has enjoyed the ride with rising star Mic Mac over the summer and is now turning his attention to the autumn with stalwart Apache Cat.

Mic Mac's winning streak came to an end in Saturday's Group One Randwick Guineas in which he finished a creditable fifth.

His record at the end of his first preparation stands at five wins from six starts and win or lose in the Guineas it was always the intention to spell the three-year-old with a view to the spring.

Australia's champion sprinter Apache Cat comes into his own at this time of year and will be in Sydney for the TJ Smith in April.

The six-year-old had a few days rest after his Australia Stakes triumph on February 14 but is back in full swing.

"He's working very well and will be in Sydney in the middle of next month but where he goes from there has yet to be decided," Eurell said.

"We are going to have a meeting of all the owners this week and work it out.

"The options are Queensland or overseas.

"But when you take them overseas sometimes it's hard to pick up the pieces again and it takes longer to get them going.

"There are races here for him so we'll just see."

The international races on the radar are the KrisFlyer Sprint in Singapore in May and the feature sprints at Royal Ascot in June.

Grand campaigner Takeover Target will follow that path while Lightning Stakes-Newmarket Handicap winner Scenic Blast will be aimed at the Royal Ascot meeting.

In the first half of 2008, Apache Cat raced five times for five Group One wins, the Lightning Stakes, Australia Stakes, TJ SMith and the BTC Cup and Doomben 10,000 in Brisbane.

He returned in the spring with a lacklustre performance in the Patinack Farm Classic at Flemington, a much improved second to Takeover Target in the Winterbottom Stakes in Perth before his third in the Hong Kong Sprint at the International meeting at Sha Tin in December.

While he ponders over the plans for Apache Cat, Eurell is more certain about Mic Mac.

"He will have a decent break of two months, he has earned it," Eurell said.

"I was pleased with his effort in the Randwick Guineas.

"I thought he handled the 1600 metres okay and was probably just at the end of his campaign.

"I'd like to think he can take another step up in the spring and even be a Cox Plate horse."
