Anudjawun is on track for next month's Group Two Brisbane Cup with trainer Shaun Dwyer declaring the six-year-old on the verge of finally reaching his potential.

Encouraged by what he described as arguably the gelding's best ever run when a barnstorming nose second to Playwright at Flemington on May 12, Dwyer said he couldn't wait to get Anudjawun to Queensland and break a two-year losing run.

Anudjawun's only win in 26 starts was at Bendigo in May 2010 but he has been placed 12 times and has been competitive in some top staying races.

Last spring he stepped up with a fifth to Shewan in the Herbert Power Stakes, fourth to Americain in the Moonee Valley Cup, third to Niwot in the Lexus Quality and fifth to Ironstein in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

Dwyer said Anudjawun was more mature, stronger and with a better constitution than a year when his autumn campaign ended after he finished second to Once Were Wild in the Chairman's Quality in Sydney.

This year he finished fourth in the Chairman's but was able to train on for a gallant fifth to Niwot in the Sydney Cup before coming back to 2000 metres and making up many lengths at Flemington.

"He raced really great at Flemington and has done well so I'm really looking forward to taking him up to Brisbane now," Dwyer said.

He said being by Yamanin Vital, Anudjawun was always going to be a better horse as he got older.

"He's rising seven now and while it sounds a bit of a cop-out he's probably only now got in the zone physically and mentally.

"He's coping better now than he ever has and realistically this year and next year should be his best two years."

Dwyer said Anudjawun would arrive in Brisbane next Friday to give him a few days before the Brisbane Cup (2400m) on June 9 ahead of the Listed Caloundra Cup (2400m) on June 30.

The trainer has abandoned plans to send stablemate Bashan to Brisbane for the Group Two Queensland Guineas after his battling third to The New Boy and Little Bro at Flemington on May 12.

He said the three-year-old was still immature and would run at Bendigo next Wednesday before an extended break.
