Owner-breeder Tony Cavanagh is hoping lightning can strike twice when promising colt Andre Roo Hoo runs in next month's $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield.

Cavanagh, who bred Andre Roo Hoo under the Tivoli Park Stud Syndicate banner, also bred and part-owned 1985 Blue Diamond winner Let's Get Physical, a grey colt by Oenjay Star who gave trainer Robert Smerdon his first Group One success.

Andre Roo Hoo is prepared by Robbie Laing and has already shown well above average ability with a second to Real Stolle in the Group Three Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) on November 5 and a third to Maximus Moonard in the Listed Merson Cooper Stakes (1000m) at Sandown a week later.

Laing has taken the blinkers off the Written Tycoon colt who has picked up $39,000 stake money so far and will be out to boost that sum in Thursday's Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) for colts and geldings.

Hugh Bowman rode him at his first two starts but Damien Oliver takes over the reins in the Listed race.

Thursday will be a special day for Cavanagh as he is an official Australia Day ambassador.

However because of that role he will not be able to attend the races at Caulfield.

Andre Hoo Roo is out of the Flying Spur mare Solar Song whose only win was in a Balaklava 1200m three-year-old fillies maiden.

She was a daughter of Argentinian mare Sumatra whose 12 wins include two at Group One level.

"I went after her best daughter, by Flying Spur, eleven years ago," Cavanagh said.

Solar Song has so far produced two winners from four foals to race, the other being Mister Ceriani, but Andre Roo Hoo is the first to gain black type.

Andre Roo Hoo ($5.50) has drawn well in barrier four in the 11-horse field which includes the talented More Than Ready colt Cambioso, the $3.20 favourite with TAB Sportsbet.

Trainer Danny O'Brien gave Cambioso a break after he won the Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on October 2, to set him for the Blue Diamond (1200m) on February 25, a race he won with Star Witness in 2010.

"Cambioso is in great shape," O'Brien said.

"He is certainly a horse we think will be in the mix in the Blue Diamond.

"He's a very casual sort of colt, he only does what he has to at home and I'll be really guided by what he does on Thursday but he's in fantastic condition.

"He spent most of the spring down at Barwon Heads and he's had a nice build up.

"I'd be expecting him to run really well on Thursday."

Choisir gelding Repousser ($4.80), prepared by Byron Cozamanis, is the only other winner in the race having scored on debut over 1000m at Moonee Valley on New Year's Eve.
