Blue-blooded galloper Altius' charge towards the Group One Epsom Handicap will gather more momentum if he races up to expectations and continues on his winning way at Rosehill on Saturday.

The four-year-old son of Redoute's Choice is a half-brother to multiple Group One winners Elvstroem and Haradasun and trainer Chris Waller had no hesitation in declaring him his stable's best hope of a victory at Saturday's Rosehill meeting.

Altius will be shooting for his third straight win when he contests the Rydges Cronulla Handicap (1500m) and TAB Sportsbet has him as the dominant $1.55 favourite.

"He looks our best chance of the day, he's a very progressive horse," Waller, who has nine runners entered for the meeting, said.

"He has got some confidence out of his last two wins and distance-wise he is still sharp enough to run another good 1500-metre race.

"He has a good draw (barrier two) which is always a positive and I expect him to run well and be very hard to beat."

Altius has been installed as a $16 chance for the Group One Metropolitan (2400m) on October 1 but Waller is looking at targeting the Epsom Handicap (1600m) on the same day at this stage.

"We'll just head as far as we can as quickly as we can," Waller said of his spring hopes for Altius.

"We'll take him through his grades which I think is important, get some prizemoney in the bank and get his confidence up. If he can win again on Saturday he'll progress to a lead-up race to the Epsom but he still needs to win on Saturday first."

Altius has only been with Waller's Rosehill team for this preparation after doing his early racing under the care of Tony Vasil, who trained Elvstroem and Haradasun, in Melbourne.

After a first-up third over 1400m on July 16 at Rosehill, Altius has been impressive with two straight wins over 1500m including a 2-1/4-length victory on August 13.

Corey Brown, who has partnered the entire in his two recent wins, retains the ride on Saturday.
