If trainer Greg Hickman is right, veteran mare Allaboutus can go a long way towards shelving retirement plans for another 12 months at Randwick on Saturday.

Allaboutus resumes after the longest spell of her career with Hickman confident the rising seven-year-old is far from a spent force on the racetrack.

"It looks the right sort of race for her on Saturday," Hickman said.

"If there is one race she should be winning to tell us to keep going with her it's this one.

"She has won a trial to give her a bit of confidence and the sting will be out of the ground which she likes."

Allaboutus resumes after a 44-week break as topweight in the Book Your Spring Carnival Package Handicap (1200m).

With a win and two placings from six first-up runs, Hickman says there is no reason Allaboutus won't sprint well fresh again.

"She always runs well at the start of her campaigns," he said.

Allaboutus' return comes exactly a year after she won over 1800 metres on a heavy track at the corresponding Randwick meeting.

Her career was then in limbo after finishing midfield in the Tibbie Stakes during the two-day Newcastle Cup carnival in September.

"She had a few issues - as they all do at her age," Hickman said.

"The syndicate actually tried to sell her during the Easter brood mare sale but she was passed in.

"That's when it was decided to put her back into work."

Hickman said if Allaboutus' comeback faltered, an appointment with an Arrowfield Stud stallion would become a reality.

"Starcraft and Charge Forward have been mentioned as possible stallions," Hickman said.

"If she doesn't perform to expectations we can get her in foal and then race her until the rules say we are no longer allowed to."

Hickman has engaged the services of 1.5kg claiming apprentice Tommy Berry to offset Allaboutus' 58kg.
