Flemington winner Denman will form part of Peter Snowden's spring arsenal with the $1 million Golden Rose firmly on the agenda.

Denman was one of two winners by champion Lonhro for the Darley operation on Saturday with Skytrain victorious at Rosehill.

It was the second win from three starts for Denman with jockey Peter Mertens full of praise for his effort.

"He virtually pulled himself to the front," Mertens said.

"I couldn't stop him, he was travelling that well while the horses in front started to tire."

"No doubt he is above average. I would love to stay on him."

That won't happen in Sydney where Kerrin McEvoy is certain to be aboard in the Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill on August 29.

"I think the Golden Rose is a definite target for Denman and we will see after that," Snowden said.

Ironically, Skytrain won the Denman Hotel Thredbo Handicap (1200m) to set up a treble for Snowden at Rosehill and leave him just 2-1/2 wins shy of Gai Waterhouse in the race for the season's trainers' title.

Snowden is in his first full year in charge of the Darley team and is trying to play down the premiership.

"I'm just here to train as many winners as I can," he said.

"We are giving it a shot but there's a long way to go yet.

"When I catch Gai, then we'll have a go.

"She has a big stable and is very competitive but I just want to concentrate on my runners."

However, with Waterhouse currently on an overseas holiday, her winter team has been scaled down.

She does not have a runner at Randwick on Tuesday while Snowden has accepted with five while Waterhouse has nominated two for Canterbury on Wednesday and her rival seven.

A decision on whether Forensics will be part of the Darley spring team has yet to be made.

The multiple Group One winner's Brisbane campaign was thwarted by heavy tracks and a decision on whether she was retired to stud was still on hold.
