Crooked front legs haven't slowed down promising mare Alexandra Gardens who will get a second shot at a city win at Sandown on Wednesday.

Trainer Peter Morgan gave the Royal Academy four-year-old time to mature and she has rewarded him with three wins from four starts.

At her only previous city run she was beaten 2-1/2 lengths when sixth to the in-form Flying Ruby but Morgan has since noted her improvement wearing winkers.

Last week, with the gear on for the first time, she led all the way to score by two lengths at Ballarat, signalling better wins were in store.

"I think the winkers have turned her on a little bit," Morgan said.

Morgan bought Alexandra Gardens for $35,000 as a yearling at the Magic Millions on the Gold Coast but when he saw her front legs feared he might have wasted his money.

"I didn't look at her before I bought her and when I saw how bent her legs were I couldn't believe it," Morgan said.

Any thoughts of making her run early were immediately dismissed.

"With horses like that you have just got give them plenty of time and that's what we did," Morgan said.

"We didn't race her early and she is pretty good on her legs."

Alexandra Gardens raced for the first time in October this year when she won at Geelong and Ballarat.

Mark Zahra rode her at Geelong and again last start at Ballarat and will be looking to extend his unbeaten record on her in Wednesday's Molly's Robe Handicap (1300m).

Alexandra Gardens is also entered for Saturday's Leilani Classic (1500m) at Moonee Valley but Morgan prefers the Sandown event which is restricted to non-city winning mares.

"It looks a nice race for her," Morgan said.

"She has barrier one as well so she ticks a lot of boxes."

Alexandra Gardens is favourite with TAB Sportsbet at $2.20 ahead of Royal Snippets ($5.50) who finished second last at Sandown on November 15, a week after finishing second to Flying Ruby at Flemington.

Others in the market are last-start provincial winners Ravishing Reward ($7) and Mio Mio ($8.50).
