Gerald Ryan had the option of keeping Adnocon in Queensland for one more race but decided to bring the in-form runner home to Sydney to start in Saturday's Listed Winter Stakes.

Adnocon has been in terrific form this preparation winning three of his four starts including the Listed Eye Liner (1350m) at Ipswich.

His only defeat so far this campaign was when second to Woorim in the Glasshouse Handicap at the Sunshine Coast in his most recent start.

"He came back to Sydney on Saturday and has settled back in as good as gold," Ryan said.

"I don't know if he's glad to be home or not but he appears to be."

Ryan had the Tatt's Mile at Eagle Farm as a consideration for Adnocon, who was just one of the trainers well performed horses during the Queensland winter carnival, but he decided on the Winter Stakes instead.

Adnocon has 54.5kg in the 1500m Winter Stakes where he will line up against last start Civic Stakes winner Illuminates who is topweight with 58kg.

Ryan said the step up from 1400 to 1500 metres would be ideal for his charge.

"I've always thought 1500 to 1600 metres is his ideal distance," Ryan said.

Adnocon, a four-year-old gelding, has won seven of his 29 career starts and has surprised Ryan with what he has achieved so far this time in work.

"His preparation has been sensational and he has done more than I thought he would," Ryan said.

"Six months ago I would never have thought Adnocon could win an Eye Liner."

The Rosehill trainer has also been keeping an eye on the weather and said his confidence would grow if the track was rated dead on Saturday.

Adnocon did however win first-up at Canterbury this preparation on a slow rated track.

"I think that just gives credit as to how well the horse is going this preparation," Ryan said.

Ryan has a number of horses nominated for the Rosehill meeting but said he was looking forward to seeing Break Card in the Benchmark 78 Handicap for three-year-olds.

"She's going great," Ryan said.

"She's getting to 1400 metres and hopefully the track will dry out a bit for her.

"She's up against the colts but I think she should run well."
