UNBEATEN colt Under The Louvre, impressive winner of Wednesday’s BMW Handicap at Caulfield, will have a short break before taking aim at the tailend of the spring carnival, reports Racing Network.

Trainer Tony Vasil believes Under The Louvre, a winner of his two career starts, has the quality to be competitive in the tough spring environment.

As impressive as Under The Louvre was, Vasil believes stablemate Prince Harada has his measure.

“He’s convinced me well enough today to think he’s a horse that could be quite competitive in the spring,” Vasil said. “If that’s the case he can’t keep going now and expect him to stay up. I’ll give him a bit of a breather.”

Vasil said he is likely to take Under The Louvre up to Peter Morgan’s water-walker complex when he picks up Prince Harada next week.

He said the colt would retain residual fitness at Morgan’s while giving him a break at the same time.

“He does look like he will get a mile (sic 1600 metres),” Vasil said.“He’s got a lovely nature and a brilliant turn of foot.”

Although Under The Louvre, the $2.20 favourite, was slowly away, Jack Hill was able to settle him mid-field and when asked to quicken he put the race away in a twinkling.

Under The Louvre had one length to spare from Pindan Pearl, $4.80, which finished strongly, with a long neck to Moment Of Design, $21, third.
