Happy New Year!! What a way to end the year! PPD Club chief form analyst Brian Blackwell ended 2014 with a bang, nabbing a great double with his 2 best bets for Wednesday (New Year's Eve). Brian, who has been in cracking form all year, scored with his headlined special CORPORATE TAKEOVER 1st $5.20 and also LORD ATHENAEUM 1st $5.10 at the Echuca meeting. To add cream to the day he named runner-up Wild Fire as the main danger to Corporate Takeover - and landed the $16.00 exacta. Brian's longshot for the day lost but the only other horse he named as the danger was the winner BARCODE 1st $3.20.

A bold effort against some smart types at Flemington last start has to be the signal that(5) Corporate Takeover 11/4 is ready to strike in race 8, a BM70 hdcp 1400m at Echucaon Wednesday.The Mossman 4YO came from 5th on the inside at the 400m to drive through just off the rails to finish a close 3rd/11 in a BM70 at Flem 1400m on Dec 13. It was a blanket finish and CT was btn a half length by the useful Tips And Beers. The Darren Weir trained gelding is now having his 6th run off a break and should be cherry ripe. I rate the main danger as (7) Wild Fire 7/2 from the Peter Moody stable. The Sebring 4Yo shaped well for his last start 6th/15 Sandown Lakeside (BM64) on Dec 10.
ECHUCA RACE SIX: 2 the eachway selection
Smart 4YO (2) Lord Athenaeum 5/2 landed the money for us at Bendigo on Dec 21 and I'm happy to have another go with him in race 6, a BM70 hdcp 1600m at Echuca.
The Lord resumed from a spell to run 8th/14 Sale 1400m BM70 on Dec 3 and then produced a bold winning run over the Bendigo 1600m in BM64 on Dec 21 (SP $6.00). He is nicely set up for today's mile bid. The danger will be (3) Rich River 6/4f from the Darren Weir stable. RR finished well ahead of Lord Athenaeum in the Port Adelaide Guineas 1800m in April although the Lord was caught deep.
