Well, here it is: the Turnbull Stakes - the race that will either scuttle the dreams of the Typhoon Tracy camp or buoy the connections with massive hope as they head towards the WS Cox Plate, later this month. The Shoot Out camp will also be desperate for a top class effort from their charge as the last two runs of their wonder horse have seemingly been below par. The actual fact is that his runs have been full of merit and anyone backing him will be hoping the bigger track and a clear run will make all the difference. Just the same the $4.20 is not super value for a get back type drawn barrier two against such a top class field. I am selecting him but will not bet at that price. At $12 I will be having a smaller wager on Vigor just for an interest at fairer odds for a genuine Flemington horse.

Hay List falls into the category of no bet at $1.70 simply because he is having his first start down the straight and backers of that type of horse needs only to refer back to the recent defeat of Love Conquers All. Admittedly Love Conquers All had heart problems that day but if I launched on Hay List today I must admit I would be feeling a tad nervous before the race. There is no need to feel nervous today as there will be other betting opportunities where nervousness will not be an issue over the coming weeks so why put your self under pressure. I am having a small bet on Beltrois: he is a Flemington horse and the $61 is what my banker has ordered at this extremely tough meeting.

Readers of my blog will know I felt a fraction ill after the Epsom when my roughie Hidden Wonder ran fourth, beaten in a photo finish, at $31 for the place after hitting the lead halfway down the straight. I will not even mention the $160 and $280 for the win I took on Betfair. Alas, what could have been if Trusting could have won as I stood him out in the trifecta as well as bet for the win. I am fairly confident he would have won on a drier track. Sorry about the whinge: I rarely do this to you but you can imagine how I felt but I can assure I have heard a sadder story from the race and in time it will be relayed to you.

Today is a meeting full of interest and I am looking forward to the betting challenge ahead but I will be betting quite lightly looking for one good priced winner to cover the day. If things get desperate I will be looking towards Mr Stupendous and Gathering in the last. Hopefully by then I will be betting with profits and not chasing my tail like yesterday when it took me to the second last in Perth to hit the front. I had already eaten my tea and drunk two stubbies by then - it was a long day.
