The Pensioner Plan experiment is moving along with 207 selections for Plan A - the Wildcat selections resulting in a miserable 37 winners (17.87%). On a flat stake win only basis the returns have been $153.15 SP and $157.10 Best Fluctuation for losses on turnover of around 25%. This is an abysmal set of figures based on a set of selections that on face value seem to have a sensible set of rules revolving around best last start form of horses in the first three lines of betting. These are the same horses most punters bet in one form or another. It goes without saying an ad hoc approach to selections does not pay dividends: well, at least not on the Plan A selections.

On June 27 I introduced a tighter set of rules that attacked the Plan A selections and what an amazing difference there has been. The 106 Plan A selections in that time have been reduced to 31 with an excellent 9 winners returning $38.50 and $40.90 at SP and Best Fluctuations, respectively. I must make the point there are only 31 selections in Plan C and Lady Luck has smiled in abundance with 9 winners (29.03%) considering several of the winners have been quite good prices so let us not become complacent and start making grandiose plans for the future.By the end of the Spring carnival we will have had an extra 20 punting days and 200 selections for Plan C selections and only then can we sit back and start to make some predictions.

Yours truly has his Plan B selections and with 3 winners from 16 bets (18.75%) and presently I am only marginally better as a selector than the Plan A selections . I had better smarten up by the end of the year but with only 16 selections I am not about to hoist any coloured flag at this stage. One area I always feel confident about are my best bets of the day. Since this experiment began I have had 5 best bets (Prince Braeman (win bet)WON, Star Encounter (win bet WON, Twin Wing (place bet) 3rd, Star Encounter (win bet) WON and Rockpecker (place bet) UNP for returns of over 11 units depending on whether you use TAB dividends, SP or Best Fluctuation. Again this is a small sample figure and time will tell however even though I have had bad runs before (I had a particularly awful time in Perth a year or so ago) I do not have massive runs of outs with the best bets.

OK,
It is now time to start the process for tomorrow so catch you then
