TVN does a lot of crowing about being top of racing's tree but it seems it can't even get a website operating efficiently. For $50 a month it's not much value right now.

Sydney filly Combat Kitty leads the initial order of entry for next month's $1 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m). With $436,380 in earnings, the General Nediym filly is the current top qualifier for the rich 3YO feature on Jan 14. The Matthew Smith prepared Combat Kitty was an impressive winner over the Flemington Cup Carnival and she was runner-up to flying filly Karuta Queen in January's BMW Magic Millions 2YO Classic. Others high up the order of entries include Queensland gallopers Rocket to Glory ($377,900), Noisy Ocean ($212,000), Playtime ($183,800) and Military Grace ($178,000).

Hong Kong's racing bosses, and the local, well-controlled media, can't stop congratulating themselves following Sunday's international day. If we believe them, it was just about the greatest day in the history of racing on Planet Earth. They conveniently fail to mention the absence of horses from Australia and the USA. The HK Racing Post burbles: 'The Jockey Club will not rest on its laurels after Sunday's successful 2011 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Races, and chief executive Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges says there is "a unique opportunity" to raise the meeting to an even higher global profile. "With 14,000 people working on the day and planning for months in advance by more than 200 people, this week is a big project but there is great satisfaction for everyone that it turns out the way it did on Sunday," Engelbrecht-Bresges said. "I believe it was the best CXHKIR yet and we had guests at the meeting from outside of racing, including the International Olympic Committee, who thought it was an absolutely fantastic event. Still, I think there is a unique opportunity to make it even better." Wow, talk about giving yourself a pat or two or three on the back!
