And now for something completely different...Kiwi stayer Capecover will follow a path successfully used by European visitors in recent years in his bid for Melbourne Cup glory. Trainer Alexander Fieldes will give Capecover only one-lead-up run in Australia before the $5 million race on November 3, the Geelong Cup 2400m 13 days before the Cup. Capecover is currently at 100/1 in Cup betting.

Support from all quarters...Veteran turf scribbler (in semi-retirement) Ken Callander has come out in support of young Mitchell Beadman as the kid battles to establish himself in Sydney's riding ranks. In his Daily Tele column, KC says: 'I had my doubts a few months back whether young Mitch Beadman had any future as a jockey, but the kid has knuckled down and is starting to fire. His winning ride on Vintedge at Rosehill last week was a 10 out of 10 performance and his front-running ride on African Prince at Randwick on Saturday was just as good even though he was collared on the line.'
