Four other Melbourne Cup hopes did not advance their claims in the Ebor. Warringah ran 5th, Deutchscland was 8th, Ladies Best 15th and Desert Sea 18th. Warringah (17/2 second fav) was prominent, led over 2400m out, was ridden hard 400m out, got headed well inside final 200m and could find no extra.

In Melbourne Cup betting following the Ebor, TAB Sportsbet has maintained Changingoftheguard as a $17.00 chance, and Warringah has firmed from $41 into $31. Deutschland has eased from $61 to $81, Ladies Best from $201 to $301 and Desert Sea from $101 to $301.

Adelaide jockey Simon Price has copped a $400 fine for a whip rule breach on the Mark Kavanagh-trained debutant Definitely Ready in a 1050m maiden race at Morphettville. He says: 'I was fined for hitting the horse when I was too far in front.'
