Leviathan owner Lloyd Williams has staked his claim for all three Melbourne spring plums - that's for sure! His star galloper GREEN MOON has now joined MOUNT ATHOS at the head of Betstar's Melbourne Cup market following his brilliant victory over stablemate SEVILLE in the Turnbull Stakes at Flemington. "Lloyd knows what it takes to win a Melbourne Cup and GREEN MOON now shares the top line of betting in our market at $11, in from $15," Betstar's Alan Eskander told PPD. "On that run today, he's a genuine Cox Plate chance on his way to the Cup so we've also wound him in from $15 to $9 for that race behind PIERRO ($3.30 - $3). You couldn't help but be impressed by SEVILLE's run as well. He's been the long odds shortener in both Cups today and is looming as a real lightweight chance. He was $81 in the Melbourne Cup market this morning, but is now into $26, while he shortened from $41 to $13 in the Caulfield Cup."

Other members of the Williams team in MOURAYAN (Craven Plate) and TANBY (The Bart Cummings) also won to put their names in the frame for the Cups, but Eskander says Gai Waterhouse's import GLENCADAM GOLD was the best Cups' trial of the day behind GREEN MOON. He says: "He dominated his opposition in The Metropolitan and we've now got him favorite for the Caulfield Cup, at $7. We had him $21 before today but with his lightweight in the Caulfield Cup, he'll take some running down in a fortnight's time...MOURAYAN has moved from $26 into $17 for the Caulfield Cup, while TANBY showed plenty and was $51 into $34."

GLENCADAM GOLD is into $17 for the Melbourne Cup, from $51, while MOURAYAN ($34-$26) & TANBY ($101-$51) shortened significantly as well. A disappointing run today from WINCHESTER saw him drift from $26 to $41 in the Melbourne Cup market, while EXCEPTIONALLY's scratching saw him from $41 to $67. "For those looking for outside value in the Melbourne Cup, FAT AL moves from $201 into $101 following a strong win in the EPSOM, but we don't think my namesake will go to Flemington on the 1st Tuesday in November," Eskander said. Not to be outdone by Lloyd Williams or Gai Waterhouse, the master Bart Cummings produced NORZITA to win the Gp.1 Flight Stks at Randwick. In turn she has shot to the top of betting in both Victorian classics, the Thousand Guineas($8-$5) and the Crown Oaks ($11-$5.50).
