The Fairfax media can't help itself in its pursuit of Damien Oliver. It now claims he is 'demanding' to be paid a percentage of any prizemoney My Quest For Peace wins in the Caulfield Cup. Oliver was dumped from the ride after The Age and other Fairfax papers ran stories alleging Oliver had made a bet of $10,000 on a rival horse in a race at the Valley. Fact is - Oliver is not 'demanding' anything. He is asking the stewards to make a ruling on whether he should receive his percentage for the ride for which he'd been booked. He's not the first jockey to make such an application. Oliver, who won the Thousand Guineas on Commanding Jewel at Caulfield, joined OTI Racing principal Terry Henderson in the stewards' room after the final race yesterday to discuss the issue. ''I had a firm booking for My Quest For Peace through Terry Henderson for both the Caulfield and Melbourne cups,'' Oliver said. ''I felt that was unfair that I was taken off the horse after a firm booking was made. Terry rang me and asked me to step down. I told him I needed to talk to my lawyers.''
