Corey Brown copped a suspension in the Melbourne Cup for careless riding causing interference to Tullamore and Hawk Island. Stewqards say it was a 'high range' offence and outed him until Nov 17. Stewards also say that the well-fancied UK stayer Jukebox Jury pulled up lame in the near foreleg. The Luca Cumani stable must find a new jockey for Bauer on Saturday thanks to Damien Oliver getting suspended from an adjourned hearing into interference in last weekend's Victoria Derby at Flemington

The full stewards' report for the Melbourne Cup:

Glass Harmonium (IRE) was slow away. As the field approached the course proper on the first occasion Drunken Sailor (IRE), due to pace, had to be checked off the heels of Lost In The Moment (IRE). Glass Harmonium (IRE), Precedence (NZ) and Tullamore (NZ) all over-raced in the early stages. C Brown (Lucas Cranach (GB)) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137a, the careless riding being that leaving the straight on the first occasion he allowed his mount to shift in to a point where Tullamore (NZ) was taken in across the running of Hawk Island (IRE) resulting in Hawk Island (IRE) losing its rightful running. C Brown had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight November 3rd and to expire at midnight November 16th, a total of 14 race meetings (3 city, 11 country). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account that the careless riding was in the high range, C Brown's good record and also that he will miss a Group 1 race meeting. Down the side passing the 1800m, Precedence (NZ) shifted out abruptly and made a forward move. Modun (IRE) raced three wide without cover.
Near the 100m on the first occasion At First Sight (IRE) shifted in forcing Niwot in behind the leader, that being Illo (GER). Moyenne Corniche (GB) pulled very hard in the middle stages. Near the 700m Tullamore (NZ), which was starting to give ground, had to be checked to avoid the heels of Drunken Sailor (IRE) resulting in Glass Harmonium (IRE), which was following, also being checked. In assessing the interference Drunken Sailor (IRE) was taken in slightly by At First Sight (IRE) which shifted in and away from Manighar (FR). M Rodd (Red Cadeaux (GB)) was fined $1000 for using his whip seven times, two of which were consecutive, in a forehand manner prior to the 100m. J Cassidy (Illo (GER)) reported that his mount pulled hard in the early and middle stages. A post race veterinary examination of Jukebox Jury (IRE) revealed the horse to be lame in the near foreleg and a veterinary certificate of fitness is required prior to racing again.
