The season's two top jockeys face off in the Kowloon Cricket Club Centenary Cup (1,600m) at Sha Tin and Wonderful Moments might have the tactical speed to give Joao Moreira the edge.

Zac Purton's mount, Archippuslooks certain to turn out the better of the two horses, with the three-year-old already assembling a record of three starts for two wins and a second to Khaya. He has a nice turn of foot and looks a nice prospect for next season as he matures, but the Peter Ho Leung-trained gelding is still missing the start and doing a few things wrong in his races at this stage and that makes him vulnerable from his wide draw.

John Size-trained Wonderful Moments, on the other hand, is a year older, has already had a brief career in Melbourne and is a different style of horse - he leaves the barriers as though his gate has opened early, he will roll forward and then he will grind out his finish rather than dash.

But those attributes look well suited in Sunday's race as attributes which can see him quickly overcome a similarly wide draw and cross over the trail the likely cheap leaders, Snitzel Kid and Chancellor.

There are only four or five horses which look likely to pursue a forward spot, so the tempo may very much depend on whether those two light weights want to push the issue.

If they do, then that will play into the hands of Purton on Archippus, but if one is happy to let the other lead and simply sit handy to him, then the tempo looks only average.

That would be more suitable for Wonderful Moments, who should be right there on their backs ready to pounce whenever Moreira decrees, and these days that could be anywhere between the 600m and the 300m.

Although Wonderful Moments has not raced since December, Size has left no stone unturned since early January, with plenty of work and four barrier trials for the gelding and he looks to be turning up ready to play.

Purton will be looking to get Archippus out of the gates, firstly, then find him some cover in the back of the field, so he has a few tasks to manage. If he gets it right, it won't surprise if Archippus has too much ability and wins anyway but it probably won't be straight forward.
