YOU GOTTA LARF!

Well, you do. The latest scare on the radio is from (you guessed it) the TAB, frightening you that if you bet with a corporate bookmaker you may not receive the full dividend.

Yes, it is possible for this to happen.

But never mind that you'll get at least the best of three dividends on city racing. That's not a useful statistic to promote.

True, for the really big pays, sure, you need to read the small print. I'm sure you know that some organisations have much lower limits than others. Some are risk takers. Some are not. Some specialise, and some target their clientele. And they mostly provide excellent services for their clients.

I'm not in the business of telling you where you should bet, but I do try to keep it all above board for you. Try this:

One company has a limit of $20,000 on a single payout for a trifecta or a first four, while another closely associated company places a $200,000 limit on each.

How often have you seen a trifecta pay two hundred grand? Exactly. I can recall a few first fours up around there. But not many.

Chances are, to get that kind of divvy you'd be spreading the bet across a whole range of horses, hence betting maybe 10% of the unit. That would take care of even the $20,000 limit.

However, a few DO have incredibly low limits on their exotics. But they can also sometimes pay better on singles, etc.

Take the time to check their betting rules. Sometimes these are not easy to find and you may have to call the free or local number to have it explained to you.
Don't ask for a spoken answer, rather, ask where it is on the website and how you can get there. That's not so difficult and you only need to do it once in a blue moon.

You owe it to yourself to do this with whatever group(s) you use. It's just common sense.

But as to the latest frighteners... well... big fines and jail didn't wash, so this is the next one.

You go right ahead and bet according to your FREE choice.

But do read the rules.

(Don't you always, regardless of what you're committing yourself to???)

nb. I'm speaking with you about CITY racing in general. It's TRUE that on smaller, non-metropolitan meetings the limits are often significantly smaller. Again, that old caveat applies: READ THE RULES.
