Trainer Todd Pletcher finally got the monkey off his back, while jockey Calvin Borel continued his amazing dominance of America's most famous race when Super Saver rallied to win Saturday's Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs, reports the Daily Racing Form.

It says: Pletcher had been blanked with his first 24 Derby starters, while Borel won his third Derby in the last four years and second in succession. Super Saver's victory produced a happy ending for Super Saver's owner, WinStar Farm, who had two other potential Derby starters, Rule and Endorsement, pulled out of the race earlier this week.

Super Saver benefited from a patented ground-saving trip under Borel, riding the rails throughout before overtaking pacesetter Conveyance in early stretch and edging well clear. Ice Box finished best of all out in the center of the track, overtaking Paddy O'Prado in deep stretch to finish second. Lookin At Lucky, the 6-1 favorite, could not recover from early trouble and was never a factor, finishing a nonthreatening seventh in the field of 20 3-year-olds.

Super Saver completed the 1 1/4 miles in 2:04.45 over a sloppy track and paid $18.80.
