NEW Zealand apprentice Daniel Stackhouse continued to cram as much success as possible into his short window of opportunity in Australia when he rode a winner for the ninth consecutive metropolitan meeting at the Sandown Lakeside course yesterday, reports The Age.

It says: Stackhouse, who is on loan to Peter Moody at Caulfield, comes out of his time on August 1 but will return home with a swelled bank account after a remarkable run of success on Melbourne racetracks. Such is the touch the apprentice is showing, he was able to bring home Pass Me By a big winner yesterday, despite that horse being winless for almost two seasons.

Moody said he was delighted with Stackhouse in the few weeks since he came across from the south island of New Zealand, but said that unless he was granted an extension to his apprenticeship, his opportunities could soon dry up in Melbourne.

''He's a good kid and a very good rider, but it's not easy for any kid to come out of their time at the start of the new season with the spring carnival on the horizon,'' he said.''If he can be granted an extension then sure, his claim would be more than handy, but even so, his opportunities will dry up in the spring.''

Stackhouse had his three-kilogram claim reduced to two after he gave Pass Me By ($5.50) the perfect front-running ride. After stacking the field up before the home turn, he skipped away halfway down the straight and cruised to the line 2╝ lengths clear.
