EMERGING five-year-old Sea Galleon yesterday showed he could be a stayer to watch next year after scoring his easiest victory and his first over 2400 metres at Betfair Park, reports the Sunday Age.

It says: Starting $2.05 favourite, Sea Galleon strode away for a four-length win that pleased his co-trainer Cindy Alderson so much that she is now planning an interstate raid with the son of Galileo before the end of the year.

''He's always shown in his work that he likes to gallop the Sydney way and there is that Christmas Cup [2400 metres] at Rosehill [on December 10] which will suit him and the trip away won't hurt him either,'' Alderson said.

Ridden patiently by Peter Mertens, Sea Galleon sat midfield but once the field turned for home, he pushed through a gap and then ran away from his rivals for a dominant victory over Musical Hit ($6), with two lengths to Onerahi Bay ($21) in third place.

Alderson bought Sea Galleon at the Melbourne Premier Sale for $55,000 - ''a spur of the moment'' purchase. ''It was back when the Galileos weren't making that much and I just liked him as a staying prospect,'' she said. ''It's taken him a little while but he's really going well now and he's showing us that there might be some more to come.'' (www.theage.com.au)
