The continuation of two of the premier series conducted throughout Victoria during the colder months are among the features of the Melbourne Racing Club's seventh annual Taralye Raceday this Saturday at Caulfield.
The Aldgate Lawyers Handicap, which is the second heat of the Banjo Paterson Series and the PFD Food Services Handicap, the third qualifier for the All Victorian Sprint Series, will see horses continue their quest for a start in the respective finals at Flemington on 7 July.
They are races three and four respectively on an eight-race card that commences at 11.50am.
The 2400-metre Aldgate Lawyers Handicap features a return bout between Group 2 winner Domesky and promising stayer Hurdy Gurdy Man, who were separated by a nose when second and third respectively in the Warrnambool Cup earlier this month.
Hamilton Cup hero Finiguerra, who won last start in Adelaide, and ultra-consistent mare Placement are also engaged, along with dual Warrnambool Cup winner Hissing Sid and tough stayer Montgomery.
The PFD Food Services Handicap (1000m) has brought together a slick field of short-course specialists, including Johannapine, who will be having her first start since finishing near the tail in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate in February.
Galbraith, a last-start winner over Saturday's course, and talented types Queen Delight, Alpha Proxima and Broken are among Johannapine's rivals.
There will be no shortage of interest in many of the support races, starting with a clash between Zamorar and Platelet in the Seppelt Wines Handicap (1100m), which launches the program.
Promising juvenile Haussmann will chase back-to-back Caulfield wins in The Chase Hotel Handicap (1200m), classy filly Soft Sand resumes in the ALH Group Plate (1100m), while Under The Eiffel, Verco Road and Eraset headline a strong Court Jester Hotel & Junction Hotel Handicap (1600m) that rounds out the card.
Saturday's meeting supports Taralye, which is a Victorian-based not-for-profit children's charity offering professional support to families with the goal that profoundly deaf and hearing-impaired babies and children can learn to listen and speak.
As part of the festivities associated with the day, Caulfield will embrace the "hooping" craze in order to raise further funds for not only Taralye, but also injured jockey Louise Cooper.
A mechanical horse, traditionally used as a practice tool for jockeys, will be located in the public concourse, where patrons can strike a "hooping" pose for a gold coin donation. Proceeds will be split between the two causes.
