ONE of the babies of the field, Long John, has been best-backed in the past 24 hours to win tomorrow’s Cox Plate, says Adam Hamilton of TAB.com.au. The Caulfield Guineas winner has firmed from $9 into $7 and has attracted almost $20,000 in bets today alone at tab.com.au.

“He’s the big firmer as punters look away from the favourites for value,” Hamilton told PPD.  “Others like Shamus Award, Green Moon, Foreteller and Super Cool have attracted strong support at big odds.”

The most notable bet was $4000 each-way at $26 on Shamus Award, the other three-year-old in the Cox Plate. He’s firmed into $21.

“We also took a $1000 bet on the raider Mull Of Killough at $41. He’s into $35,” Hamilton says.Foreteller and Super Cool have also firmed from $26 to $21.

“There’s also been a constant flow of money for Green Moon. He’s now our worst result and into $17.”

Of the favourites, It’s a Dundeel has been by far the best-backed in the past 24 hours. He remains $4 despite almost $30,000 being bet on him today. The big drifter has been Gai Waterhouse’s Fiorente, out from $4.60 to $6 since Tuesday’s barrier draw.
