MORE Joyous today joins her stablemate Pierro on a Cox Plate campaign when she resumes at Rosehill, where her trainer Gai Waterhouse threatens to add further to her already awesome spring arsenal, reports The Age.
It says: More Joyous was last night backed in to $1.16, from an opening quote of $1.30, to take her record to 20 wins from 27 starts when she races first-up in the Sheraco Stakes. But while Waterhouse said yesterday that the mare always sent shivers down her spine when she raced, she was expecting a similar reaction after her Caulfield Cup-bound stayer Strawberry Boy contests the group 3 Kingston Town Stakes.
''More Joyous will just win as she's come back bigger and stronger than ever, but you watch out for Strawberry Boy,'' Waterhouse said. ''He's an exceptionally talented horse. A similar talent to Descarado [her 2010 Caulfield Cup winner], just a younger version.''
Strawberry Boy has only raced five times, for four wins, and needs to win today's 2000-metre race to pass the first qualifying condition for the Caulfield Cup.
Waterhouse also has her eyes on the season's first group 1 race when Kabayan runs in the Golden Rose today. ''He's in this race right up to his ears as he's so unflappable,'' she said. Waterhouse said Kabayan could earn the right to join Pierro in the Caulfield Guineas if he was to win today, but she will also consider the 2000-metre group 1 Spring Champion Stakes next month at Randwick if the horse shows he needs more ground.
