Exciting Flemington winner Ms Funovits' two-year-old preparation may not be over just yet, with Malua Racing head trainer John Sadler saying connections are weighing up two options for the daughter of Reset.
Speaking after her victory at Flemington yesterday, Sadler had initially said that Ms Funovits would head straight to the paddock, however after seeing the filly this morning Sadler said there is now still a possibility that she could have another run.
"She'll either go to the paddock now and have a short spell before being targeted at the Golden Slipper, or she'll go to Adelaide in three weeks time for a Listed race and then go straight to the paddock until the Spring," Sadler said.
"She's pulled up really well this morning, she's eaten her feed and seems to have recovered physically very well but we'll get a better idea over the coming days.
"At this stage it all seems good and we'll just make the decision which way we go in a few days time.
"If we do press on it will be just for that one run aimed at getting that bit of black-type under her belt early because you never know what can happen down the track."
In further positive news for the stable, Sadler said talented mare Lady Melksham has fully recovered from a fractured skull suffered in the barriers at Caulfield in October and was on track for a late Melbourne Festival of Racing cameo.
"She's really good, she's completely recovered from her injuries and has been back in the stables for a month now," he said.
"She's being set for the Group 1 Robert Sangster (1200m) in Adelaide but she's in really good shape.
"We'll probably give her a couple of runs in Melbourne over the shorter trips to get her ready for it."
Though Sadler admitted it could be an unusually light couple of months for the stable over the upcoming Melbourne Festival of Racing, he said grand campaigner Linton may be targeted at the Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m) at Flemington before embarking on a possible international campaign.
"He's back in pre-training and could run in the Blamey first up," he said.
"His grand final this preparation may be the Singapore Gold Cup (2000m) in May.
"That's where we might head with him but we've just got to see how he comes back." (www.racingvictoria.net.au)
