Military Rose emerged as Queensland's number one contender for the $2 million BMW Magic Millions 2YO Classic following her brilliant win in the listed $150,000 Racetree BJ McLachlan Stakes (1200m) at Doomben on Saturday.

A filly by former Magic Millions Classic winner General Nediym, Military Rose got back after striking trouble, but flew home from off the pace to win. Sent out as the $2.50 favourite, Military Rose, got up to beat Marking Time ($9) by a long head, while Startsmeup ($5) was another three parts of a length back in third place.

In a great advertisement to the quality of the field set to contest the upcoming Magic Millions Classic - the first five runners past the post are all entries for the race. While a number of youngsters impressed with their performances in the juvenile feature - it was the Gillian Heinrich trained Military Rose who was too good.

Heinrich virtually gave up all hope of winning when she saw her youngster so far back in the field during the middle stages of the race.

"I didn't expect her to be back there and I didn't think she could win from where she was."

"But how versatile she is," the leading trainer bubbled.

"She's ready to rock now for the Millions and I definitely won't be tying Stathi down with any riding instructions after that."

Stathi Katsidis has no doubt that Military Rose has what it takes to win Queensland's richest race.
