TRAINER Mike Moroney's run of fortune at Queensland's major carnival came to a dramatic halt yesterday when his Queensland Oaks contender Revoke had to be destroyed after breaking a hind leg at trackwork, reports The Age newspaper.

It says: Moroney, who has trained group 1 winners at each of the past two winter carnivals in Queensland, said the loss of the three-year-old filly was a great blow to the stable. "She was very promising and was really starting to hit her straps over ground," Moroney said.

Revoke, who was purchased for $48,000 in New Zealand, had won two of her 12 starts but was showing staying ability, being a last-start 2200-metre winner in New Zealand.

Sheikh Mohammed's filly Purple is the early favourite to win the $400,000 Queensland Oaks before this morning's final declarations.

Moroney won the 2007 Queensland Oaks with Eskimo Queen and last year took the Doomben Cup with Sarrera and the Stradbroke Handicap with Mr Baritone, who first contests Saturday's group 2 QTC Cup at Eagle Farm.

The Flemington trainer wants champion rider Damien Oliver to turn around Mr Baritone's 12-race losing streak since last year's boilover Stradbroke win at $31.
