BART Cummings believes patience is the greatest asset in racing and the master trainer was using plenty of it yesterday as he scoured the country to find the right jockey for Salade in Saturday's AAMI Golden Slipper, reports the Daily Telegraph in Sydney.
It says: With the final field for the $3.5 million race set to be announced at 10am this morning, no rider had been officially booked to partner the Pago Pago Stakes winner in the world's richest two-year-old race as of late last night.
Luke Nolen, who is riding the crest of a wave as the jockey of world champion sprinter Black Caviar, is the firm front-runner to replace Corey Brown after he was held to ride Hot Snitzel. Fellow Melbourne-based jockey Michael Rodd is another believed to be in the running, as is hard-working Sydney hoop Tim Clark, who regularly rides for Cummings.
The delay in finding a jockey has come as a result of the Cummings camp being caught on the back foot after originally believing they would have little trouble securing the services of Brown.
