Lights of Heaven opened Peter Moody’s Sydney Carnival account with her dominant win
Lights of Heaven opened Peter Moody’s Sydney Carnival account with her dominant win in the Neville Selwood Stakes (2000m). Moody has had a lean trot over the first two Rosehill meetings, with none of his previous nine runners managing to finish in the placings.
“It has been a bit bleak over the past couple of weeks but it is good to get a winner,” Moody said.
Lights Of Heaven was ridden perfectly by Luke Nolen, settling on the leaders heels in a slowly run race before her class prevailed in the straight, holding off Hoylonny and Said Com.
Moody is undecided whether Lights Of Heaven, who firmed from $3.20 to $2.90 on course, will tackle he Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Royal Randwick on April 27 or head straight to Brisbane for the Hollindale Stakes.
“I think class prevailed, she handled the conditions well and had the perfect run,” Nolen said.
“She was giving them a lot of weight but they are not the level she has raced against in the past, it is good to see her back in the winners circle.”
The win was Lights Of Heaven’s first since the Eagle Farm Cup last June.
Hoylonny had support in the betting ring, firming from $5 to $4.60.
“I had a nice enough run, tracked up the inside, saved ground the winner was just too good,” Cassidy said. (www.racingnetwork.com.au)
