RACING Victoria international recruiter Leigh Jordon says the win by Galileo's Choice in yesterday's 2400m Ballyroan Stakes at Leopardstown, Ireland, could persuade Irish trainer Dermot Weld to tackle the Melbourne Cup, reports the Melbourne Herald Sun.Its report adds: "I know last year Dermot was keen, but he wasn't sure whether he'd get enough weight to get in," Jordon said. "That win should be enough to get him an extra kilo or kilo-and-a-half and might get him up to around 53.

RACING Victoria international recruiter Leigh Jordon says the win by Galileo's Choice in yesterday's 2400m Ballyroan Stakes at Leopardstown, Ireland, could persuade Irish trainer Dermot Weld to tackle the Melbourne Cup, reports the Melbourne Herald Sun.

Its report adds: "I know last year Dermot was keen, but he wasn't sure whether he'd get enough weight to get in," Jordon said. "That win should be enough to get him an extra kilo or kilo-and-a-half and might get him up to around 53.5kg, which would go close to getting him a run."

Weld, who has trained two Melbourne Cup winners in Vintage Crop (1993) and Media Puzzle (2002), said Galileo's Choice would be entered for the Melbourne Cup.

"It was a very good performance. It was an excellent renewal of the race," Weld told reporters at the Irish track. "There was a lot of very good horses in the race. It was a proper race, full of Derby winners and Derby-placed horses...I'm considering the Irish St Leger for him and he'll be entered in the Melbourne Cup."
