So used to seeing Chris Waller dominate the staying races in Sydney with his imports, it was no surprise to see another import capture Saturday's $125,000 Grp 3 Schweppes Summer Cup (2400m) at Rosehill Gardens but with Waller without a runner it paved the way for the well-travelled German-bred entire Le Roi (GER) to earn his first stakes win, reports www.breednet.com.au.

It says: The Tony McEvoy-trained 4yo made it four wins in succession after two winning starts at Morphettville before bolting in by nearly three lengths over 2000 metres at Caulfield.

After tracking the early speed set by Iggy Pop, Glyn Schofield sweated on a rails run for Le Roi, which opened up when Iggy Pop rolled off the rail on the home turn. Le Roi kept up a relentless gallop to defeat Brightest (Gailieo) by three-quarters of a length with Praecido (One Cool Cat) a further 1-3/4 lengths back in third.

"When Glyn put the pressure on him he took a while to get it worked out but he was very strong on the line, McEvoy said. "We will take him home and work out what we are going to do in the autumn and winter. I am a little bit nervous about running him down south in the autumn because the tracks can be a bit firm so you may see us back here in Sydney."

A winner on debut at Compiegne, Le Roi was one of four horses imported into Australia by McEvoy's principal owner, Wayne Mitchell. The 4yo entire is a son of the champion German stallion Areion (Big Shuffle x Aerleona by Caerleon) who was a Group 2 winning sprinter in Germany and a brother to King George Stakes G3) winner and Phoenix Stakes (G1) placed, Agnetha.

Le Roi is one of six winners out of his dam Limaga (Lagunas). He was beaten to the honour of becoming her first stakes-winner by his 2yo brother Limario who won two of his 3 starts this year including A Group 3 at Dusseldorf.
