Jim Cassidy believes Lucky Lago has the potential to be a spring carnival contender

Jim Cassidy believes Lucky Lago has the potential to be a spring carnival contender following a dominant win at Warwick Farm, reports Racing Network news.

The John O'Shea trained filly was most impressive taking on the older mares, cruising to a comfortable victory over Mossmoney and Speed Queen at only her fourth career start.

"She has always impressed me this girl, I rode her when she was a yearling and right from day one she showed potential," Cassidy said.

"She is knee high to a grass hopper but she has an engine, once she gets to ten furlongs she will come in to her own.

"I think she is good enough to be in Melbourne for the spring, don't worry about that."

O'Shea indicated that Lucky Lago would have another run this preparation before preparing for the spring carnival.

"It was very, very, very impressive," O'Shea said.

"Obviously the blinkers have helped her and the cut in the ground is no issue.

"There is a listed race over a mile in Brisbane for her on Saturday week that we pencilled in should she run well today, I'll have a chat to Jimmy and see how she pulls up.

"She has got a good future and we are very happy."

Lucky Lago is beautifully bred, being by Encosta de Lago out of Dizelle.

"The Queensland Oaks would have been too early for her, we had her in the race but it would have come too quick," O'Shea said.

"I think 2000m would just about pull her up, that will probably be as far as we will go with her."
